The tragic school shooting in Minnesota serves as yet another heartbreaking reminder that we are failing our children and families when it comes to school safety.
Clearly, this isn’t a priority for America, considering we keep letting it happen. Tragically unacceptable.
As I’ve said before, and, sadly, find myself saying every few months, this should be a nonpartisan issue that unites us all. Our children deserve to feel safe in their classrooms, and parents deserve peace of mind when they send their kids off each morning.
It’s deeply frustrating to watch our country pour enormous energy and resources into divisive cultural battles, whether it's bathrooms, books, or chalk drawings, how could any of those issues be more important than this.
Imagine if we channeled even a fraction of that urgency, funding, and political will toward comprehensive school-safety measures. Other countries don’t have this problem; in America, we’ve normalized it.
In the meantime, we'll keep thinking. We'll keep praying; until the next tragedy forces this conversation again. Our students, teachers, and families deserve better. They deserve leaders who will prioritize their physical safety with the same intensity we bring to culture-war issues. They deserve action, not just rhetoric.
This pattern has to end. School safety must become the sustained, urgent priority it should have always been.
Myself, alongside Tampa, are with the Minnesota community affected by this violence.
